04

Foundation created for stock trading, IPOs, virtual-account funding and USSD

01 / Context

The product situation.

InvestNow served customers across mutual funds, securities, trusts and wealth-management products, but the experience had evolved as separate product journeys. The business needed a digital foundation that could support new products without adding more customer and operational fragmentation.

02 / Problem

What needed to change.

Customers had to navigate disconnected journeys for onboarding, funding and investment management. Internally, parallel workstreams also needed a consistent way to validate readiness before release.

03 / My responsibility

What I personally owned.

  • Owned the mobile and web product redesign from requirements through rollout.
  • Defined the information architecture, navigation, onboarding and funding journeys.
  • Coordinated legacy-user migration and established release-readiness governance.
  • Implemented the analytics foundation for post-launch product decisions.

04 / Research and evidence

How I reduced uncertainty.

  • Reviewed customer friction across onboarding, funding and portfolio journeys.
  • Used UAT findings, defect logs and stakeholder feedback to prioritise release risks.
  • Introduced Mixpanel event tracking, Firebase instrumentation and in-app surveys to establish behavioural evidence.

05 / Constraints

The boundaries were real.

  • Multiple regulated investment products with different operating requirements.
  • A live legacy customer base that could not be disrupted during migration.
  • Six major workstreams progressing in parallel across product and operational teams.

06 / Decisions and trade-offs

The choices I made.

  • Designed one product architecture around customer goals rather than organisational product lines.
  • Preserved access to the legacy platform during migration instead of forcing a single cutover.
  • Made UAT scenarios, defect severity and stakeholder sign-off part of a repeatable launch gate.

07 / Delivery and collaboration

How the work moved.

I worked with design, engineering, compliance, risk, operations and business teams. I ran structured UAT, prioritised defects, coordinated stakeholder sign-off and assessed go-live readiness across V3 and the capabilities built on top of it.

08 / Results

What the work enabled.

  • Onboarding completed in under two minutes
  • One platform supporting multiple investment products
  • Product analytics established through Mixpanel and Firebase
  • Foundation created for stock trading, IPOs, virtual-account funding and USSD

09 / What I learned

The judgement I carried forward.

A redesign creates lasting value when it improves the product system, not only the interface. Migration planning, release governance and analytics were as consequential as the customer-facing screens.
